Conquer the oceans with MERMAID – at the transport logistic from 4th – 7th June 2019

We are currently developing the world’s best marine routing network, with more than 2 million network points, and of course we want to tell the universe about it. There’s no better place for this than the world’s leading trade fair for logistics, mobility and IT – the transport logistic in Munich. This is where the logistics industry meets.

At the fair we will be presenting, for the first time, the software prototype for the research project MERMAID. The plan is to start selling the routing algorithm in early 2020 or to fully integrate it into our production system. FleetMon is one of the few companies in the world with its own routing network optimized completely for the logistics chain. As part of the MERMAID project, we have worked together with our research partner, the German Aerospace Center (DLR), to further optimize FleetMon’s existing routing algorithm and to extract the last 5 percent.

WHAT IS MERMAID?

The acronym MERMAID stands for Maritime Routing Maps based on AIS Data. In this research project, which started in October 2017, DLR is developing a procedure for the automated calculation of plausible shipping routes. The aim is to improve the forecast of arrival times in order to optimize the supply chains and related processes around sea transport.

FleetMon’s shipping data analysts provide the required AIS data, including information about the ship type, the destination port, the current ship position, the ship’s length and the current cruising speed. We provided DLR with about 165 billion pieces of raw position data, including satellite data, from ships on the move in 2016. With the help of algorithms, this raw data underwent a plausibility test. The cleansed data forms the basis for the software that maps a routing edge-node model of maritime traffic. Over two million network points are interconnected in the routing network.

Added value for the user: precise arrival time forecast of the ship and visualization of the expected route progression.

Mit MERMAID die Weltmeere erobern – auf der transport logistic vom 4.-7. Juni 2019

Wir sind aktuell dabei das beste Schiffsroutingnetz der Welt, mit mehr als 2 Millionen Netzpunkten, zu entwickeln und wollen dies natürlich auch über den ganzen Globus hinaus mitteilen. Der beste Ort dafür: Die weltweite Leitmesse für Logistik, Mobilität und IT – die transport logistic in München. Dort trifft sich die Logistikbranche.

Auf der Messe stellen wir erstmals den Software Prototypen zum Forschungsprojekt MERMAID vor. Es ist geplant, den Routing Algorithmus Anfang 2020 in den Verkauf zu geben bzw. vollständig in unser Produktivsystem einzubinden. FleetMon gehört damit zu den Unternehmen auf der Welt, das sein eigenes vollständig auf die Logistik-Kette optimiertes Routingnetz besitzt. Im Rahmen des MERMAID Projektes ist es uns gemeinsam mit unserem Forschungspartner, dem Deutschen Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR), gelungen, den bestehenden Routing Algorithmus von FleetMon weiter zu optimieren und die letzten 5 Prozent herauszuholen.

WAS IST MERMAID?

Das Akronym MERMAID steht für Maritime Routing Maps based on AIS Data. In diesem Forschungsprojekt, welches im Oktober 2017 startete, entwickelt das DLR ein Verfahren zur automatisierten Berechnung von plausiblen Schiffsrouten. Ziel ist es, die Prognose von Ankunftszeiten zu verbessern, um so die Lieferketten und entsprechende Prozesse rund um den Seetransport zu optimieren.

Wir als Schiffsdatenanalytiker von FleetMon liefern die erforderlichen AIS-Daten. Darin sind u.a. Informationen über den Schiffstyp, der Zielhafen, die aktuelle Schiffsposition, die Schiffslänge und die aktuelle Reisegeschwindigkeit enthalten. Rund 165 Milliarden Positions-Rohdaten, inklusive der Satelliten-Daten, von den Schiffen, die 2016 weltweit unterwegs waren, stellten wir dem DLR zur Verfügung. Mit Hilfe von Algorithmen unterlaufen diese Rohdaten einem Plausibilitätstest. Die bereinigten Daten bilden die Grundlage für die Software, die ein routingfähiges Kanten-Knoten-Modell des maritimen Verkehrs abbildet. Über zwei Millionen Netzpunkte sind in dem Routingsnetz miteinander verbunden.

Mehrwert für den Anwender: präzise Ankunftszeitprognose des Schiffes und Visualisierung der erwarteten Routenverläufe.
