Ship Spotter Spotlight: Stefan from Greece
in Ship Spotter Profiles, Community by Stephanie DuschaIn 2021, we started to put the spotlight on our passionate ship spotters. Each month, we showcase a different photographer of FleetMon.com. In September 2022, you’ll meet a maritime enthusiast from Greece (User name: zante) who joined FleetMon in 2018.

What is your maritime background?
Age 69, retired, from Zakynthos -Greece. Since I own a vacation home on the island of Zakynthos directly by the sea, opposite the turtle island Marathonissi where every year the turtles come to lay their eggs and is under nature protection, I am directly tempted to photograph the mega yachts that visit the bay over the summer.
When did you start to take photos of vessels?
What is your motivation for being a ship spotter?
It is in the place where I have my vacation home. The mega yachts that pass by here almost daily animate me to take pictures.

Special Vessel Shot

Zante’s comment on the photo: “CHOPI CHOPI, as it is located just a few meters from our terrace, I remember this yacht best.”
How often are you on tour to shoot vessels?
Several times a week.
Which technical equipment do you use to capture vessel moments?
I only use a Canon EOS 600.
Which vessel types do you like to take photos of the most and why?
Any, but mostly from 50-60 meters.
How many pictures of different vessels have you collected since you started?
Over 400 pictures.
Where is your favorite ship spotting location so far?
Zakynthos, I live there about 8 months.
Which worldwide ship spotting location would you like to visit if you had the chance to?
Actually no other place, am happy here :-)
Is there anything you would like to improve when it comes to uploading photos to FleetMon.com?
That it is possible to include more the environment in the pictures. Currently, images that do not put the ships in the foreground are mostly not accepted.
(Thank you, zante, we will take your feedback seriously!)
