The successful series of MARISSA events continues: Yesterday, June 21, 2022, the III. International MARISSA Symposium in Bremerhaven / Germany had begun. Four FleetMon crew members are pleased to be part of the event: Carsten Hilgenfeld, Schalk Van Bosch, Darren Caldwell, and Sebastian Olias. Already on day 1, the visitors could listen to two exciting presentations by Carsten Hilgenfeld and Schalk Van Bosch.

“What is it like to have fleets from all over the world in your hands?“
It is Thursday evening, June 8, in the atrium of the Konrad Zuse Building at the University of Rostock. A fresh breeze blows through the extensive hall while the summer seems to have arrived outside. Students bustle between the doors, slowly filling the room. Then it’s time, punctually at 5 p.m., for the International Career Day to open.
We from FleetMon have already set up our booths with the other companies and can’t wait for the program to start.

“You can see all the ships in the world here?”, “All in real-time?”, “We never expected that!”
Yes, we at FleetMon can see all the ships in the world in real-time. And what else we can do and how we are revolutionizing the maritime logistics industry at our headquarters in Rostock were presented to representatives of the German Federal Bank.
Once a year, part of the German Federal Bank’s head office visits a local office. This year it is MV’s turn. Together with the German Federal Bank Rostock branch manager, Peter Kolzarek, 13 employees visited us on the afternoon of June 8 to look at our offices and learn more about FleetMon. As expected, we scored first with our unbeatable view over the Rostock city harbor. After a short coffee and water break, Peter Kolzarek took the word and thanked us for the invitation: “Even though we live in the north and are at home here in Rostock, nobody expected what is done here in these offices. We are delighted to be here.”

Last Friday, our second community meeting took place in Hamburg, Finkenwerder. We have invited all active ship spotters and AIS partners in the area to a maritime restaurant with the best view of the vessel traffic on the Elbe. Anyone who knows the mentality of ship photographers can certainly imagine that the camera doesn’t have to be missing at such an event. Some of our guests snapped ships as well that evening.
In December 2019, the FleetMon Community Meeting took place for the first time, and many users took part. Unfortunately, the event had to be canceled last year due to the pandemic. For FleetMon, such a meeting offers the ideal setting to exchange ideas in a relaxed atmosphere in personal contact with our users and the community of our platform. We want to improve the user experience and further develop FleetMon.com to meet the users’ needs.
In 2021, numerous guests from Hamburg and northern Germany joined the event to talk to Juliane and Sebastian from the AIS team, Steffi handling the Support at FleetMon, and other colleagues to exchange and share experiences. The FleetMon team received valuable insights into how the ship spotters use our platform. In a personal exchange with the community, new ideas arose about how to improve FleetMon.com. Bit by bit, we will tackle a redesign of the community area with a range of new features which are more in line with user requirements.
To everyone who participated in the event: It was very nice to meet you in person! The whole team had a lot of fun with you guys that day. Thank you for your time and input.

The 30th edition of the Hanse Sail was the perfect occasion for us to invite friends & family over to our place. Hanse Sail is Rostock’s annual meeting for museum ships and traditional sailing ships and one of the world’s largest events of its kind. In early August, we opened our doors to celebrate the JAKOTA Open House Day with friends, local partners & family members of the JAKOTA Group. We warmly welcomed all guests to our headquarter to enjoy a couple of cocktails and snacks, relax and watch the sailing ships of the Hanse Sail go by in front of the office. The kids had fun at the raffle (the collected money will be donated to the German Maritime Search and Rescue Association (DGzRS)) and everybody was having a good time. In December 2019 FleetMon was invited to visit the Maritime Simulation Center Warnemünde (MSCW). The Maritime Simulation Center Warnemünde (MSCW) is part of the Department of Maritime Studies and a mandatory part of every maritime seagoing personnel education offered at the University of Applied Sciences, Technology, Business and Design in Wismar (Hochschule Wismar). Being located in Rostock Warnemünde, the center is not too far from the FleetMon headquarter. It is part of our FleetMon DNA to widen our horizons and strive for maritime expertise. For that reason, we like to organize team events and excursions on a regular basis. Besides that, it is always a lot of fun to spend some time with colleagues outside of the office.
Maritime Simulation Center Warnemünde
The Maritime Simulation Centre is the only one worldwide combining the simulation of nautical and technical vessel operations and a shore-based vessel traffic services simulator system. Four different simulator systems are to be found inside the center: A Ship Handling Simulator, a Ship Engine Simulator, a Vessel Traffic Services Simulator, and a Ship Safety & Security Trainer. The MSCW was built for education and training of the maritime seagoing personnel (e.g. nautical officers) and provides an excellent basis for research and development. We were especially interested to visit the Ship Handling Simulator and the Vessel Traffic Services Simulator.
Only one moment to take the perfect shot. Ship spotting is a hobby made for true vessel enthusiasts, crew members, people working in the nautical field and other maritime fans. Equipped with warm socks, raincoat, field glasses and most important – a camera – ship spotters head out to take pictures of all kinds of vessels: passenger ships, tankers, bulkers, cargo vessels – Nothing is safe from their focused lenses. German Ship spotters can be found at the major ports, terminals and nearby bridges of Hamburg, Cuxhaven, Kiel, and Warnemünde.
Ship spotters upload their pictures to vessel tracking platforms like FleetMon.com to enlarge their personal photo galleries. FleetMon is based in Rostock/ Germany and celebrates its 10th anniversary in summer 2020. During the last decade, far more than 600.000 vessel pictures have been added to our vessel image database. Providing users with high-quality pictures of over 70.000 different vessels truly adds value to our vessel database.
